Forget the timer, play the market! Your pool pump will run for as long as you need it to each day while we make sure it uses the cheapest/greenest electricity.
Use Case:
Domestic pool pumps typically need to run for 4 to 8 hours per day, depending on the season and the size of the pump against the size of the pool, but we probably don’t need to tell you this.
We offer a service that operates your pump for the number of hours per day that you specify. Unlike a timer, it does this according to the real-time price of electricity, so that you’re always buying the cheapest periods of electricity to run your pump. This can save you big time!
If you don’t want your pump to run at night, or if you would like to consume more renewable energy, you can optionally increase the “Renewable Bias” control that we provide to you. Not only will this typically prevent your pump from running at night, but it will also reduce the number of times that the pump turns on and off in a day, since renewable availability is less volatile than the price of electricity.
Recommended Powerlake Settings:
- Daily Run Time: 4-8 hours, according to your needs
- Renewable Bias: >2
- Lower numbers will result in increased savings, but your pump will turn on and off more frequently, and will probably run at night. For this reason, we recommend starting with a value of 2 and moving up or down from there according to your local experience.
- Max Price: 500c/kWh
- When the price goes over the Max Price that you specify, the Daily Run Time is no longer guaranteed.
- The algorithm gives you the cheapest prices anyway, so this feature is typically not needed for this use case. See others to learn more.
